TomoTherapy is the most advanced treatment in cancer available in the world today. This unique method of targeting tumours is an integrated, advanced form of 3-dimensional, image-guided radiation therapy for treating cancer. This is because the TomoHD unit provides more accurate radiation therapy for even the smallest tumours. Other advantages include precise targeting of tumours, minimum damage to health tissue and significantly less treatment time.
TomoTherapy The Tomotherapy system is both a treatment machine and a CT scanner. This enables doctors to take a CT scan prior to treatment so they verify the position of the tumor and ensure the patient’s position is correct. The TomoTherapy treatment system delivers radiation therapy in a spiral pattern (TomoHelical) or discrete-angle approach (TomoDirect). The couch on which the patient lies, also moves guiding the patient slowly through the centre of the ring. While TomoTherapy is used to treat cancers all over the body, it is especially effective for paediatric cancers, head and neck, pancreatic, left-sided breast cancer and anal and rectal cancers.

To further enhance the treatment and patient care at their TomoTherapy Centre, Ceylinco Healthcare Services has invested in the very latest, state-of-the-art immobilisation devices and a Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT) package. Immobilisation equipment plays a key role in cancer treatment, helping to reduce patient setup time and ensures exact positioning of cancer patients prior to radiation therapy. This increases the degree of precision achieved when directing radiation beams at tumours. The immobilisation devices include a Head & Neck Device that provides superior immobilisation for a variety of brain and head and neck treatments, a Pelvis System that provides easy and accurate positioning in the treatment of prostate cancer and a Breast-board System whichprovides precise daily positioning and prevents collapse of the breast in the treatment of Breast Cancer. A Stereotactic Radio Surgery (SRS) immobilisation device is used to treat small brain tumours and an abdominal and pelvic immobilisation device is used for Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy during treatment for small or moderate sized tumours of the lung, abdomen and pelvis.

CT Simulator and Treatment Planning at our Radiation Treatment Unit now have an extra edge in their fight against cancer, thanks to the new CT Simulator. CT Simulation is one of the latest advances in the field of Radiation Oncology for the treatment of cancer, and is now available the Ceylinco Healthcare Centre’s Radiation Treatment Unit. CT Simulation uses the latest in 3D technology to localize, define and reconstruct a patient's tumor. This process identifies the tumor along with the normal tissue surrounding it, allowing the Radiation Oncologist to design the best treatment plan based on each patient's anatomy. This enables the Radiation Therapist to map out the resulting treatment coordinates with a high degree of accuracy. A CT Simulator is vital to this process. It differs from a conventional CAT scan in a number of respects. A series of internal and external lasers permit proper positioning of the patient on the treatment table. Small skin markers are correlated with the patient's internal anatomy and tumor. The table position of the simulator can be precisely indexed and documented to accurately reproduce the treatment setup each day over the 5 - 8 weeks of therapy. All this information is then transferred to the 3-dimensional planning computer and the linear accelerator, which is the treatment machine. Multiple checks are in place to ensure the accuracy of daily treatments. The CT Simulator also reduces patient time at the center. It allows a patient to receive a full CT scan in 3-5 minutes. The same machine provides the simulated coordinates for the high-energy radiation treatments. A patient can schedule another appointment for the actual delivery of treatment. Armed with this technology, we can sleep easy, knowing that we provide the best and most accurate treatment available to our patients.
